ABOUT US

John & Kaitlyn Lawrey

We live in Duluth and absolutely love everything the Northland has to offer! Our pups enjoy many of our favorite activities with us - hiking, swimming, spending time at the cabin, etc! But most of their days are spent cuddling at home, going on walks, and being chased and hugged by our daughter. John serves as pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Duluth Heights, and I am a stay-at-home-mama.

We both grew up with dogs and always knew that dogs would be a big part of our married life together. I grew up with little dogs, and, though I love all dogs, wanted to experience having a big pup. I researched all kinds of breeds, searching for a big dog that was hypoallergenic and non-shedding, but also loved being active and up for anything. I came across the Bernedoodle, which was a fairly new breed. I have always admired the gorgeous and loyal Bernese Mountain Dog, and was very intrigued by the intelligence and non-shedding aspect of the Poodle. I read that sadly BMD’s have a limited lifespan, but there is a lot of evidence that doodle mixes tend to live longer because crossing the breeds makes them less likely to inherit negative traits of the purebred parent breeds. After thoroughly scouring the internet for information and pictures of Bernedoodles, I knew that this was our breed!

Finding our Chester boy was a gift from the Lord, and we instantly fell in love with his goofy, playful, and gentle spirit. Less than a year later, we were getting puppy fever and searching for a companion for our boy. It was an easy decision to get another Bernedoodle, this time a female, so we could have the prospect of breeding. I saw pictures and videos of our Dixie girl, and it was literally like she was trying to jump into our lives. Her personality jumped off the screen! Her puppy-like play drive and happy energy were the perfect balance and match to Chester’s laid back (yet still loving and playful) demeanor. They absolutely adore each other and are lost when they are apart from one another. 2 pups are better than 1!

We've always known that they are considered great family dogs, and now that we have a growing family of our own we can attest to how wonderful they are with kids - we are talking ears being pulled, being patted aggressively, being chased around and hugged, having their dinnertime interrupted by bowls of kibble being dumped on the floor... they tolerate it so well and don't mind the extra affection :)

MEET THE PAWRENTS

Chester and Dixie both come from health tested parents and are Genetically Health Tested through Embark. They are both completely clear from all genetic disease and breed-specific genetic diseases.

CHESTER

F1bb Bernedoodle, ~80lbs

Our noble Chester boy was born on January 2, 2018. He was our first ever pup as a married couple, and let me say, I think we would be hard pressed to ever find another dog as amazing as him. He is extremely loving, intelligent, and playful. He is super chill, and very tolerant of any situation he is put into. We’ve brought him along on many hospital/nursing home visits, as his calm demeanor and loving presence give joy to everyone that meets him. He can be cautious around new people (a berner trait), but for the people he loves he is super affectionate and leans on you as you love him up! He has the most gorgeous amber eyes that have perfected the art of begging – he is hard to say no to! His absolute favorite activity is chasing after a ball.

DIXIE

F1 Bernedoodle, ~60lbs

Our sweet Dixie girl was born on February 7, 2019. She is the most loyal and loving pup in the whole world. She follows me around the house, and is always quick to give me a “hug” and affection. Her favorite activity is picking a play fight with Chester – she is both a lover and a “fighter” all rolled into one! Out of the two of them, I would say she is “high energy” but not high-strung. She thinks she is a person. We read somewhere that Bernedoodles were bred to be the “ideal human companion,” and that is absolutely the definition of Dixie. She is content as long as she is where the people are! When her tail wags, so does her entire back end. You never have to wonder when she is happy or excited (which is most of the time). We lovingly refer to her as our “Dixie Dickens.”
